Your Opinion on a New Beginning

Wow, it’s been awhile since I posted. Sorry about that. Life turned a bit more topsy turvy this past month.

The good news is, I’ve had agent interest that’s spurred me to pull one more beginning out of the hat. I didn’t believe there WAS one more opening I hadn’t already tried, but there ya go. Not only did I write it, it’s been voted best yet by those in the know.

The new beginning isn’t the only change. I’ve cut over 100 pages from the ms since Tuesday night. My critique group’s so awesome they were able to find the fat from looking at a synopsis. You guys are the best!!

So if you’re interested, the new beginning’s at blogging friend Adam Heine’s blog this week and he’s giving away freebies to lucky winners. ;D There have been some awesome suggestions so far and I’d love to know, what do you think?

  1. Good for you! Gotta love those crit groups.

Yes. I have had some of the best.

I like it, Victoria, but will put the powerful sentence “To bring peace, I must attack my brothers” as the start of the novel. This sentence is something that people will remember. Your husband’s cover of your novel is amazing.

    • vicki says:

Thanks, Giora! I did go ahead and do that. It brings in his loathing for what he has to do and the entire basis for the novel right there in the first paragraph. I’ll tell my husband you like his artwork, too. ๐Ÿ˜€

Yay, Victoria! The new opening works! (Of course, I may have been primed by the touring exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural History. It covers some of the Three Nations history.) And your hubby needs to be doing covers full-time. It’s gorgeous!

  5. Victoria says:

Thanks for the thought, Suzan! In truth, he’d love to do more covers, but he’d probably want more time than he could afford if he wanted to make a living at it. He works very hard to make things unique, but covers don’t pay well for a full time artist. ๐Ÿ™ That’s why so many covers out there are redundant. The artists have to just crank the same thing over and over. (Ironically, selling fewer books than unique covers, but we won’t go into that.) However, I will pass on the compliment. ๐Ÿ˜€

Looks like you’ve been busy and productive, that explains the absence in the blogosphere.

Hopefully you’ll give us an update soon. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks, Dwei. Alas, the absence is more due to depression than anything else, but I continue to struggle on. ;D Thanks for the visit!

    Adam is right on.

I love your description, but I did see a couple shifts in POV. Just a little clarification there, and you’re on your way.

    • vicki says:

Thanks, Jay! I appreciate you taking a look. Some of the suggestions were incredibly helpful and it was a wonderful experience. Adam is a great guy to do it.

  9. You are awesome for posting your word for all to see. I really do think this beginning is much better than past versions (though I liked those too). I’m still in awe that you managed to cut 100 pages. That’s just . . . wow. So proud of all your hard work!

  10. Victoria says:

Thanks, Janet. Honestly, I’m shocked it equaled 100 pages. I had not expected that much of a difference. Now the question is, does it still make sense? I’ve got some people reading various portions of what was changed, but they’re not reading the whole thing, so it’s going to be difficult seeing if I’ve cut something important. I need a new reader. Sigh.

    Hey, Victoria!

It’s been forever since I’ve done the blog rounds. With summer over, I can get back into my school-year routine, which will help. Needless to say, it’s been forever since I’ve been here–and I really, really love your new look!

    It’s beautiful!

I love the cover design on your post, as well, and will have to hop over to check out your new beginning.

    Hugs~

Hey, Cat! Thanks for dropping in and for the nice comments on the site. I love the site, wish I had more time to spend here rather than job searching and home-denuding, but that’s life. LOL Still can’t say I’m sorry I lost my job.
