Heyy, just came across your blog~ I love reading fantasy too, and have lately gotten interested in Ancient East Asian culture. I bought "Under Heaven" by Guy Gavriel Kay recently and am excited to explore a Tang-dynansty-esque world. Keep blogging and I look forward to more entries. The book looks interesting too – I love mixes of history with fantasy, it illuminates history in such interesting ways.

Common interests – yay! Well, I'd only gotten into Ancient Chinese culture because of my own heritage. I did Chinese painting for awhile, definitely a different aesthetic from canonical Western art. By the way, if you like fantasy with an Asian twist, I think you'll like the art of Yoshitaka Amano (if you haven't found him already). Very gorgeous and fluid, with a magical Japanese flare.

Wasn't Yoshitaka Amano the guy who did the artwork for Neil Gaiman's Sandman standalone story? He's AMAZING and yes, we love his work. (My hubby's a computer graphics artist and a comic book geek.) You're very good, too! I went to your other blog. Are you still doing artwork, then?

On occassion. I do mostly character or story art now – I find it inspires me, and helps me think, on a visual level. I was always a visual person so I love lavish settings and descriptions. Hmm I don't know if Amano did that – but he did the older Final Fantasy art. He's still around.

I know what you mean – I love drawing maps and sometimes character sketches, though I'm not very good at them. I'm better at drawing animals, which doesn't help me much with drawing people. ;D BTW, I just looked up the title Amano did with Gaiman. It's called Sandman: Dreamhunters and it's gorgeous. Not my favorite product by Gaiman, but it is a good story.
